BeCool Foldy Review: The Compact Rear-Facing Seat Built for Small Cars

Finding a rear-facing car seat that actually fits in a small car is one of the most common challenges parents come to us with. Most extended rear-facing seats are large, deep, and simply don't work behind the front seats of a Polo, Fiesta, or Yaris. The BeCool Foldy was designed to solve exactly that problem — and it does so in a genuinely clever way.

What Makes the BeCool Foldy Different?

The Foldy is the only rear-facing car seat on the market that folds flat. This serves two purposes: it makes it dramatically easier to fit in smaller vehicles because you can fold the seat, position it in the car, then unfold it into place. And it makes storage and transport much simpler when the seat isn't in use.

Beyond the folding mechanism, the Foldy is a genuine i-Size (R129) rear-facing seat. It installs via IsoFix and rear leg (no belt option), rear-faces from 45cm to 105cm, and is intended for children approximately from newborn to around 4 years old.

What We Like

Compact footprint: In real-world use, the Foldy takes up noticeably less depth in the car than alternatives like the Axkid Minikid 4 or BeSafe iZi Flex Fix. If you drive a supermini or a compact family hatchback, this matters enormously.

Straightforward installation: IsoFix click-in plus rear leg makes for a solid, low-error install. The seat is stable and doesn't require specialist knowledge to get right — though we always recommend a fitting check with us.

Newborn-compatible: The Foldy includes an infant insert for smaller babies, making it suitable from birth. The recline angle is appropriate for newborns, which is essential for airway safety.

i-Size approved: It meets the modern i-Size (R129) standard, which has stricter side-impact testing requirements than the older R44 standard.

Things to Consider

IsoFix only: If your car doesn't have IsoFix in the rear, the Foldy isn't an option. Check your vehicle handbook — most cars made after 2004 have it, but it's worth confirming.

No Swedish Plus test: The Foldy is i-Size certified but hasn't been independently Swedish Plus tested. This doesn't mean it's unsafe — it meets all legal requirements — but Axkid and BeSafe go a step further with Swedish Plus certification. If Swedish Plus is a must-have for you, see our Swedish Plus tested range.

Rear leg required: The Foldy uses a rear support leg rather than a top tether or support base. Most floors are fine, but if you have a panoramic floor or a sloped floor, check the leg compatibility before purchasing.

Who Is the BeCool Foldy For?

The Foldy is the best choice for parents with small or medium cars who have been told rear-facing won't fit. It's also a strong option for families who need to move the seat between vehicles — the folding mechanism genuinely helps here.

If you have a large SUV or estate, you'll probably find seats like the Axkid Minikid 4 or BeSafe iZi Flex Fix offer more longevity (rear-facing to a larger size). But for compact cars, the Foldy is our go-to recommendation.
