One of the most common questions we hear is: "I drive a [Fiesta / Polo / Corsa / Jazz] — can I even fit a rear-facing seat?" The answer, in almost every case, is yes — but you need to choose the right seat.
Most extended rear-facing seats are designed for mid-size and larger cars. They're deep, they push the front seat forward, and in a Peugeot 208 or a Vauxhall Corsa, that can genuinely be a problem. These are the seats that actually work.
1. BeCool Foldy — Best Overall for Small Cars
The BeCool Foldy is our top pick for small cars. It's the only rear-facing seat that folds flat, which makes installation in tight spaces significantly easier. Its footprint in the car is noticeably smaller than any comparable seat.
Good for: Superminis, small hatchbacks, parents who switch between cars
Age range: Newborn to approximately 4 years (45–105cm)
Installation: IsoFix + rear leg
Standard: i-Size (R129)
2. TinySeats Two — Designed Specifically for Small Cars
The TinySeats Two was engineered from the ground up with small car compatibility as a primary design brief — it's literally in the brand name. It's one of the slimmest rear-facing seats on the market and has been independently tested to fit in vehicles where other seats won't go.
Good for: Very small cars, tight rear footwells
Age range: Approximately 6 months to 6 years (67–125cm)
Installation: IsoFix + support leg
Standard: Swedish Plus tested
3. Axkid Minikid 4 (Belt Version) — Surprising Flexibility
The Axkid Minikid 4 is larger than the two seats above, but its belt-install version is more flexible than people expect. Because it's not reliant on IsoFix anchor positions, you can sometimes angle it to fit in cars where IsoFix-only seats struggle. Worth a fitting check before ruling it out.
Good for: Cars without rear IsoFix, families wanting the longest rear-facing period
Age range: 3 months to approximately 6–7 years (61–125cm)
Installation: Belt (also available with IsoFix)
Standard: Swedish Plus tested
4. Avionaut Sky 2.0 — Best for Newborns in Small Cars
If you have a newborn and a small car, the Avionaut Sky 2.0 is worth serious consideration. It's a dedicated infant carrier (not an extended rear-facer) but it's Polish-engineered to be exceptionally compact, and the brand is renowned for fitting in vehicles others won't.
Good for: Newborns and very young babies in small cars
Age range: Newborn to approximately 12–15 months (40–83cm)
Installation: IsoFix base or belt
Standard: i-Size (R129)
